It is with deep sorrow that I bring this announcement of the death an estimated 1000 people after a landslide hit the Marra mountains settlement in Tarasin village, Western Sudan on the August 31 2025.
The landslide caused by several days of heavy rainfall obliterated the entire village known for its high citrus production and left only one survivor.
Sudan Liberation Movement calls on caregivers to assist in recovering bodies of the deceased and look for possible survivors.
Marra Mountains has been a place of refuge for thousands who fled Northern Sudan after war broke out in 2023 between Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
Critique Africa extends condolences to the bereaved families.
