The 31st edition of the annual Mount Cameroon Race of Hope held today in Buea, South West province of Cameroon has been recorded as a successful event amid the Anglophone crises in the region.
600 athletes from fourteen countries registered to participate in the race under the theme “let’s give peace a chance.”
During the race, competitors have to run up and down the 4000-metre active volcano mountain and to win to a prize, a participant must reach the summit.
The race is the largest athletic event across West Africa and Central Africa regions and is usually celebrated with traditional dances predominantly by the Bakweri tribe which worships the mountain god known as Efasa Moto.

Sarah Liengu Etonge, also known as ‘Queen of the Mountain’ who has won the senior women’s category seven times between 1996 and 2015 ran today in the veteran women category and emerged victorious.
