Football Legend Samuel Eto'o president of FECAFOOT

According to a new criteria for the voting of Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) leaders set by Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, Samuel Eto’o may no longer run for the position of president in 2025.

Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Mouelle Kombi in a recent statement addressed the need for FECAFOOT to follow legal guidelines of the Cameroonian law.

Under the new rule which states that individuals with a criminal record can not run for the office of FECAFOOT president, Eto’o is not eligible because in June 2022 he was convicted in Spain for tax fraud.

Even though many citizens argue that the conviction happened outside of the Cameroon, Mr. Kombi insists this new law is to regularise the election process, foster transparency and restore trust within the ministry of sports and FECAFOOT.
