There is no place in Africa like Lagos city to host an international event, mostly one that has to do with African music and culture. After hosting the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2021, Lagos city has been chosen to host for the 6th time in 2025 under the theme titled ‘Unstoppable Africa.’
AFRIMA was established in 2014 by its international committee in collaboration with African Union (AU) to reward talents and creativity across the African continent and so far, it remains the only platform that gives the highest level of recognition to the works of African musicians and other professionals in the music industry. The AFRIMA international committee includes Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), East Africa, Central Africa, North Africa, and West Africa regions.
Lagos city is popular for its vibrant and diverse nightlife with a unique blend of different cultures, comedy nights, fashion shows, movie premieres, Afrobeat dance and music performance scenes. The traffic congestion that reminds you to wake up early and where you also get to catch a glimpse of the Lagos street life while commuting around the city. Lagos has amazing holiday resorts, hotels and beautiful beaches which guests from all over the world can enjoy during their stay in the city.

Lagos has the right mix of modern facilities, good hospitality, strong media presence, and security and transport systems that make it ideal for hosting a major global event,” said Angela Martins, Director for Social Development, Culture and Sport at the African Union Commission during a joint announcement with Jannet Hadadi, a key player in the music distribution and publishing in Northern Africa and the Middle East from Morocco.
The announcement was made at the 2025 AFRIMA Music Conference held in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia on the 13th of May 2025.
The AFRIMA 2025 is expected to host 1600 nominees, their team members, and including approximately 60000 visitors and delegates, 2300 crew members and an online viewership of about 400 million people globally.
Entries to AFRIMA 2025 officially opens on the 27th of May 2025 and close on the 8th of August 2025. Announcement of nominees is scheduled for the 27th of August 2025 when a world media conference will be held. Fans will be allowed to vote for their favourite artists from the 5th of September to the 8th of October 2025 and the grand soirée of the awards ceremony will take place on the 9th of November 2025. 109 stations from 84 countries are expected to broadcast the live event.
