World’s first All-Electric Raceboat Championship announces Lagos city, Nigeria as its first host from the African continent. The race is scheduled take to place on the 4th and 5th of October 2025.
With a population of approximately 21million, Lagos is a hub of fast-pace innovative technology and remains the busiest economic capital in Africa. Its waters across Lagos Lagoon with beautiful spectator-friendly shorelines are a great tourism attraction where the E1 boats will be racing at over 90km/hour speed.
Lagos is a dynamic and enterprising city brimming with new ideas which makes it the ideal addition to our E1 race calendar. Together with our event partners, we look to the future to chart a course for a more sustainable Africa using our inspirational and entertaining sporting spectacle and the technology platform it provides for the development of cleaner marine mobility. The announcement marks the expansion of the championship to a fourth continent – further solidifying E1 as a truly global sport.” Said Rodi Basso, CEO & Founder of E1.
The championship features nine teams, with some of them owned by celebrities including Didier Drogba, NFL’s Tom Brady, Lebron James, Will Smith, and tennis player Rafael Nadal. Bringing this competition to Lagos will not only boost the city’s economy, but will also encourage more Africans to consider investing in the sports and as well as visitors to look for possible investment opportunities in the continent.

The first ever UIM E1 World Electric Powerboat Series took place in January 2024 with a total of eight racing events. The races took place in various locations including Jeddah, Venice, Puerto Banús, Geneva, Monaco, Lake Como, and Hong Kong. The inaugural season concluded in Lake Como in August 2024.
