President Duma Boko takes action to restore Botswana's healthcare

A first batch of trucks fully loaded with life saving medications and other health products departed Gaborone, capital city of Botswana earlier today.

The medicines are to be distributed across all remote areas of the country. This initiative by president Boko and the health department is one of the strategies in place to reinstate the healthcare services that has been faced with a systematic disruption from irregularities of the previous leadership.

“By the powers vested in me by Section (17) Subsection (1) of the constitution of this republic, I hereby declare a state of public health emergency granting me the necessary powers to make decisions quickly to address the immediate medical needs of the nation.” president Boko said during a press briefing.

President Boko also announced he will be utilising Clause 34 Sub-Clause 3, A and B of the Retirement Fund Act of 2022 to facilitate the establishment of the First Health Botswana Partnership. Out of the estimated 500bn Pula funding required, an initial deposit of 100m Pula will be done by Botswana Development Cooperation.

First Health Botswana Partnership as mentioned by the president, will assist in rapid procurement of supplies and ensure timely delivery of the medications, consumables and spares required by the healthcare system.
