An Artificial Intelligence (AI) video of President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni now 81 years old saying he will not be running for office after the 2026 election sparks debate regarding the dangers of AI.
In the video, President Museveni who has been in power for the last 40 years urges Ugandans to come in their numbers to vote for him for the very last during the upcoming presidential election scheduled for January 12 2026.
While many social media users on Instagram, Tik Tok and other platforms who believe the video is real continue to pour insults at the president, some have taken time to review the video and condemn bloggers who have assisted circulation of the content.
A source close to Museveni’s office says it is true that the president has many projects he must complete but he will a not announce his resignation from power in such a reckless manner. He advises bloggers not to exploit the gullibility of Ugandans. He says that the culprits spreading this false information may be held accountable and punished under Ugandan law.
President Museveni believes the improvement of the agricultural sector, social and economic transformation in Uganda still need his input and he has been very busy collaborating with farmers and specialists in that regard.
President Museveni, who is a former military officer came to power in 1986 after defeating Paul Ssemogerere of the Democratic Party and he is the ninth president of Uganda. He is also the world’s third longest serving non-royal leader.
If elected during the 2026 election, he will be serving his seventh term.
