Governor Ademola Adeleke secures emphatic victory in the 2026 election.
Sema Fonkem 16 August 2026

The announcement of Ademola Adeleke’s victory as governor of Osun State for a second term sheds new light on the people’s decision to survive and prosper under a chosen leader. In most parts of Africa, governorship contests have traditionally resulted in deaths, property damage, and misery following the results rather than celebration.
Adeleke, the incumbent governor defeated his main challenger, Bola Oyebamiji after securing 511067 votes from Ogun State population of approximately 6.4 million, in a landslide victory.
The results announced by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on August 15, 2026, have not been challenged by any opposition leaders.
Before Adeleke took office in 2022, government of Osun State faced serious challenges such as public debt, a strain on the educational system, salary and pension backlog, and electoral corruption.
Residents of Osun State have praised Governor Adeleke’s hard work and accomplishments in areas such as road development, the installation of potable water systems, rural electrification, pension arrears settlement, and the improvement of general public service.
The importance of politicians establishing trust with voters by demonstrating that they can be relied upon has been underscored by Ademola Adeleke’s actions in effecting significant change in Osun State.
Adeleke’s business acumen and excellent political skills have been commended for the significant development he has brought to Osun State while leading the Accord Party and formerly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Throughout the 2026 governorship election campaign, Osun State residents chose to stick with and support their candidates and community. Members of all political parties gathered outside the INEC office and voting locations in an attempt to secure their votes.
The Osun State governorship 2026 election is a fantastic example of how voters should behave during leadership selection; instead of the violence and disruption seen in the past, people should opt to live in a peaceful community and rally behind their chosen leader.
The ability of political parties to organise and motivate supporters while prioritising voter security and community safety can be connected to the success of this electoral process. INEC should also be applauded for the timely release of the results, despite the hitches.
While speaking to the press, Governor Adeleke says his re-election in not only for Accord party and the people of Osun State, but also a victory for democracy. He will serve as governor for another four-year mandate.
